The Best Things to Do in Walt Disney World for Free

Free things at all 4 parks, Disney Springs, and some resorts:

Collect button pins! These pins can work for any special occasion: birthdays, wedding anniversaries, first visits, and more! Cast members can personalize them for you and your family with names, the year, etc. They are handed out at most large stores, but if you can't find someone handing them out, it wouldn't hurt to ask a cast member where you can find one. Button pins frequently change, so it might be fun to collect one each trip!

Photos and autographs with characters! Cast members are happy to take any phones or cameras to capture magical moments with the characters around the parks. They will also scan a pass which can be bought online so all photos taken by cast members can be kept forever. This is not free, but the pictures always turn out very professional. Any autographs with characters is free, and they will sign anything you are not currently wearing. This could be a canvas bag, a notebook, a t-shirt or anything you can think of.

Due to the heat in Florida and California, they want guests to stay hydrated, so ice water is free in any location that sells fountain drinks! There is no need to spend your money on plastic water bottles in Disney.

I haven't personally tried this, but I have heard from several sources that if you ask a cast member working for a transportation at Disney, monorails, trains, trams, etc. they will give collectable cards about that transportation.

Replaced dropped food- if you bring the dropped food and your receipt to the same location you bought it at, the cast member will replace the food for free.

Mickey straws are given out with specialty drinks, but you can purchase them for a few dollars with anything else.

Magic Kingdom:

Pirates adventure scavenger hunt allows guests to collect free maps and venture around Adventureland to find the hidden treasure. It is easily completed under 30 minutes.

Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom is a trading card like game that is around the whole park. Guests can collect a pack of cards for free, and use them to fight villains around the park. This also comes with a map.

Enchanted Tales With Belle is a free show/ interactive meet and greet. Guests enter through Belle's cottage and magically travel to the Beast's castle where children perform the Be Our Guest Scene from the movie to Belle. Afterwords is a meet and greet, where you can take a picture with Belle, and receive a signed bookmark.

Disney Springs:

Pixiedust is available in the emporium near the Bippity Boppity Boutique, and it is glitter sprinkled onto your hair. It may be a mess, but it does look very pretty! It is also available in Magic Kingdom.

If you sign up for the Sprinkles Birthday Club you can receive a free cupcake on your birthday!

Epcot:

Kidcot is a free station in each country of Epcot. As of my last visit to the parks, the stations included a sticker and an informational card, with a little drawing based on the country (a flag, a name in another language, etc.) on one side and a color in picture on the other. Once every country is collected, you can get a free postcard! It is possible to buy a passport which allows a more personal drawing and a nicer overall souvenir.
